Continuing on the stacked lamination theme, I’ve again taken cues from the Wendell Castle chair from the MFA and my previous sketch. This time I’m working on a step stool. There are three reasons I want to focus on this piece of furniture (a small step stool):
- I have 3 small kids and need a couple of step stools their size for around the house
- The 2012 Wood Expo has “The Next Step” Interpretive Category that is a step stool. I’d like to work on a submission for that as it was such a blast last year.
- It’s a small piece which makes it good practice without taking too much time or material.
You can see the direct correlation to the original chair – just morphing it into a step stool. I didn’t attach the two sides at the base/back just so I could see what it looked like having them end rather than connect across the back. Dunno which I prefer.
This is another step along the path. I’ve already got a couple more sketches percolating on this size step stool.
