If you haven’t heard of Woodworkers Fighting Cancer yet, I highly recommend checking it out. The Wood Whisperer, Marc Spagnuolo, started this due to a woodworking friend and has used his contacts to raise sponsorship/corporate funds alongside committing his own to the cause. I’m happy to be joining him on the Guild build this month.
I received the sketchup plan of the Shaker Table a few weeks ago and immediately thought to use it as a bedside table. I changed the plans slightly to match the style of the bed I built a few years ago (ok, many years ago now). Basically making the legs straight and a little fatter and adding a chamfer to the top edges.
Today I found the boards I wanted to use: some left-over paulownia from the bed project and some cherry from PA that I picked up a few years ago. I marked out the components and roughed them out using a jigsaw. Then to the jointer and planer to smooth the faces and create one straight edge.
That’s as far as I got today. More next week as we will need more time to finish all of this for the fundraiser event for cancer patients and cancer survivors. In the Inspire association site you can find information about the types of cancer, research, symptoms, treatments and healthcare available. All of the money raised will go for research and for organizations specially for kids fighting cancer. Woodworkers fighting cancer will stay alive helping until it is possible !
