I received a reply via twitter from Mark Cherry asking if I had seen the Hoosier Step Stool. What’s cool is that this is a stool that you can turn over and it has steps. So, multipurpose use in the kitchen. I decided to incorporate that idea into the Z step stool. By having the edges of the top step come all the way forward – it maintains the steps but also can be flipped over and used as a small seat. It might work very well, I’d have to see it in person.
I also worked on the joinery per a discussion over on Google+. I decided to try dovetails as it should provide mechanical strength. The middle step will basically be a through-tenon but maybe multiple tenons with sloped sides to compliment the dovetails at the ends.
I’ll be leaving the stool theme for a bit – I’ve got a hall table design kicking around if I can figure out how to draw it….
